In the early 1970s, George Betts moved his family of eight from downtown Athens, Georgia to the nearby rural town of Hull in Madison County. Tired of the big city life, Mr. Betts wanted a place he could train his horses and enjoy the peace of the countryside. He purchased the house at 960 Garnett Ward Road and proceeded to turn the adjacent property of 876 into a riding and training center. This photo, taken in 1989, shows his 70 foot round pen, corral, 3 stall barn, and outlying property. He spent almost forty years outside, each day tending to his horses and chickens. Sadly today all that remains of the various structures are crumbling foundations. We are blessed and humbled to follow in Mr. Betts' footsteps as we rebuild his once immaculate property into a horse- lover's paradise. We could not have asked for a more lovely property to restore and look forward to posting updates on the upcoming rehabilitation.
